Gien French Dinnerware

Gien Dinnerware

Gien Dinnerware has been in produced in the Loire Valley since 1821, and is unique and distinguished from other earthenware by its rich and refined styles. Its fame comes from a blend of craftsmanship with industrial processes that brings tradition and creativity together as one.  The type of clay used in Gien dinnerware is faience.  So what is faience? -- Faience is a porous glazed paste composed of various earthenware clays; the most important being kaolin.  Kaolin adds strength, durability and whiteness, which makes faience superior to most earthenware products.  Even today, most stages of the production process are done manually with up to twenty hands touching each piece - from molding, firing, decorating, and hand painting.

Made in France.
